The Association of Greek Women in Tourism, was established in 1997, by a group of women working in tourism, either as entrepreneurs, professionals or scientists. Until today, the Association is fully committed to contributing to the great cause of Tourism. Further than participating in tourism exhibitions and international congresses, the Association organizes educational seminars, discussion panels for various issues concerning innovation for tourism professionals, familiarization trips for VIPs, press trips for foreign journalists and many other initiatives, including scholarships to children of tourism professionals, whilst during 2006, the organization hosted the annual conference of the International Federation of Women Travel Organizations (IFWTO), in Athens.

The idea of creating the Museum of Tourism, came as a consequence caused by the spectacular development of Greek Tourism, in combination with the need to evaluate every new trend connected to special forms of tourism, the digital technology and its effects on the distribution of tourism services.
